Day one in the books!

It has begun! Hit the woods today for the first day of the season. Hit two little local spots today, walked a total of 4.62 miles.

First spot was really a bust a little over two miles there and the deer sign was unimpressive in almost all of it. Two small spots on this piece that might be worth another walk. Did find four dead does here ,three dead turkeys all with in about ten yards of each other, and a dead goose.

Spot two was stellar looking! Tons and I mean tons of HARDCORE fresh sign. This spot will no doubt hold sheds. Jumped 11 deer in this spot, most deer I have seen together all year. Think I will let this spot set another week, then it will be a weekly stop with out a doubt.

Was super nice to get out and stretch the legs. Must get them ready for those 9-10 mile days. Would love to get back out tomorrow, but it will be spent sitting in bowhunters education class. The things we will do for our hunting buddies. I have had the class, set through the instructor class, and even taught a couple of classes. Oh well we need him to have it as well, and he didn't really want to go alone.

February gets closer with everyday and the sheds should really start to pile up!

Most think that by the Middle of January most if not all hunting is done for the year. For me and a couple of buddies the best time of the year is just getting started. SHED season, is by far my favorite hunting season of the year. Sure there are hundreds of miles to be walked, thousands of locusts thorns to deal with but who cares. Laying out there some where is a 100" shed just waiting to find its way home. Over the next ridge just might be to booners locked together!

Tomorrow will start shed season for me a part of my gang. Although it is a little early we will walk with much anticipation. There are many a dead heads laying out there to be found. Old sheds and just quite possibly some freshies. Only time will tell, but the miles tomorrow may provide valuable shed recon information for a later date.

I will try to update this at least weekly and am going to use this as a journal to keep track of it all. Just no fear there will never be a location of a shed released on here :D

Lace up the boots boys and girls and let the miles begin!
